Elderly Lady Killed by Dogs

The death of an elderly woman in Alguazas (Murcia) is under investigation after being attacked by two dogs.

SPN Murcias two Dogs Kill Elderly Woman OC23The incident took place last Tuesday night in the municipal dependency of El Paraje after the two dogs had escaped from where they live. It appears that their owner was not home at the time.

The dogs bit the 96-year-old woman in several places, although mainly on her arms which they literally ripped skin from. Even when the ambulance arrived, the crew couldn’t get near the victim until their owner arrived to call them off.

After administering First Aid on the spot, the victim was then rushed to Hospital Morales Meseguer in Murcia, however she finally succumbed to her injuries on Saturday.

According to sources at the Alguazas Town Hall, the two dogs, which are around eight-months old, are a cross between American Staffordshire Terrier and American Bully. Neither has microchips or any necessary documentation, despite their belonging to a ‘dangerous breed.’

The animals’ owners can face a charge of manslaughter on top of any administrative sanction which can reach as high as half a million euros in this case.

The attack comes only two weeks after the case of a nurse in Zamora who bled to death owing to the numerous bite wounds caused by two large dogs. The animals were under no supervision and were kept in a rural area.
