According to the HQ for the Guardia Civil in Madrid, Seprona officers had to round up four escaped wallabies in Majadahonda (Madrid).
On the 7th of this month Seprona officers were called in to capture two wallabies that were bouncing around the grounds of the University Camilo José Cela.
And it wasn’t the first time, either; back in February last year wallabies had escaped and caused a traffic accident.
They were caught and taken back to their home, by which we mean a private, animal park in Madrid, and not Australia.
Whilst there, the police checked the owner’s documents and discovered that it had no authorisation as an animal park, so they were transferred to the Madrid Faunia animal park,.
Back to the most recent incident on the 7th, veterinary surgeons belonging to the Regional Government of Madrid drugged the blighters before they could hop it… literally, so that they could be safely transferred to the animal park. After all, the last thing you want is wallabies ricocheting off the walls of your Guardia van.
The Civil Guard reminds us that the Autonomous Community of Madrid’s pet-protection law states that you can’t keep wallabies as pets as they can only be kept in registered zoos or in enclosures expressly authorised by the Autonomous Community.
