Life Saved by Rival Coach

When you hear of somebody having a heart attack, you immediate think of a middle-age, over-weight man, but not so in this case.

GRA C&M Chana Football PitchA teenage football player, who collapsed off pitch, during half time in Granada, owes his life to the quick thinking of the rival-team coach who used the ground’s defibrillator on him.

The 15-year-old player, who belonged to the cadet squad for CD Regina Mundi, was on his way to the changing rooms when he suddenly collapsed in a bundle.

Coach José Ortega, belonging to the opposing team, followed the emergency protocol and managed to get his heart going again and bring him round with the defibrillator, together with the help of the First Aid Personnel on duty at the Chana football grounds.

Although the player was rushed to the ICU in one of the city’s general hospitals for tests, his condition is reported as stable and “out of danger.”

As for the match, which had begun at 11.00h that Saturday morning, it was suspended.
