Salobreña Wild Beach Sports

The Wild Competition Company organised the wildest sports competition in Salobreña for the second, consecutive year over the weekend of the 16th/17th.

The event was held on the Peñon Beach (where they normally hold beach sports such as volleyball etc), which for participants from elsewhere provided an impressive back drop of the Castle on top of a sheer rock face.

One of the organisers, José Antonio Díaz, explained that this sporting event was divided into two different competitions: on Saturday, the Wild Track consisting of about 20 individual tests within an area of 500 sq/m metres. And then on Sunday was the Wild Race, which is a 7.5m kilometre race throughout the municipality and… 40 other tests.

About 250 athletes from all over Andalucía, as well as other parts of the country, participated in the event.

There was also a charitable side to it, as there was a charity paella on Sunday whose takings would go to the Asociación Animales al Rescate de Salobreña.

They organised one last year in May that had 700 participants probably because there were free classes on how to do handstands and skip with a skipping rope. Very alluring!
