Beware The Delivery Man

Homeowners have been victims of the gas-fitter scams and a number of other ruses in order to deprive them of their possessions, but now there's a new one.

GRA False Delivery Man 02The first reported case of somebody posing as delivery personnel to get somebody to open the door, only for the crook and an accomplice to force their way past into the dwelling violently was on the 12th of September in Otura, just north of Padul.

CCTV footage shows two people, one calling at the door and the other hiding just out of sight from the front door. When the door is opened, they both rush in shoving the homeowner aside and once in, it’s to grab what they can before making off.

The second incident took place 15 days later in Maracena, but involved a gang of five in the same town. However, they were frustrated in their attempt by the homeowner who put up a fight.

The modus operandi is always the same, targeting chalets or semi-detached homes. They pretend they have a package to deliver. Anybody who is duped into opening the door risks being assaulted and their possessions stolen.

Consequently, many people living in the metropolitan area of Granada are worried and no longer look on delivery drivers the same way when they call at the door. Many tell them to just leave it outside the door and wait a while before opening the door, but not before checking outside from a window.

The security cameras installed in homes in Otura and Maracena, where the events were reported to the Civil Guard, have become a key element in being able to identify the assailants and continue the investigation.

So far, there have been no arrests and the Guardia Civil are investigating at least five people connected with these incidents.
