It started about a year ago when the police started to receive complaints from drivers and pilots about somebody dazzling them with a laser pen.

The complaints from drivers were coming from the A336 and the GR43, in the Pinos Puente area. However, the police also received complaints from Granada Airport, (Federico García Lorca) because pilots were also getting dazzled, which indicates that the device was quite powerful to have such a range.

Accordingly the Policía Local in Pinos Puente opened an investigation which has finally come up with the goods, it appears; the powerful laser pen was being used from a house in the municipal dependency of Casanueva but they couldn’t be sure exactly which in order to obtain a search warrant from a magistrate.

The person behind it wasn’t sticking to a particular day of the week or time, so there was no pattern which the police could use to catch them red handed. So they set a trap.

They knew that the culprit would not be able to point the laser at a patrol car, so they used one as a decoy, driving around the area, whilst another lie in wait ready to catch where the beam was coming from. It worked.

When they called at the door the parents allowed them to come into the house when they explained what they were looking for. The alleged culprit was hiding in a room, and we’re not talking about a teen, but a 31-year-old man. He could face a fine up to 30,000 euros, as it is not the first time that he has been in trouble with the law.

“It is very peculiar behaviour coming from an adult,” considered the Chief of Local Police.
