The yacht belonging to Ecologistas en Acción has arrived off the Costa Tropical on a mission to heighten awareness over caring for our sea and beaches.

The name of the yacht is Diosa Maat and she is crewed entirely by Ecologistas-en-Acción volunteers. So far this summer she has sailed along the Andalusian coastline, putting into ports and marinas to ‘spread the word,’ and meet up with local-branch members of this NGO.

She will spend the next three weeks sailing along Granada and Almería coastlines before moving on to El Mar Menor in Murcia, Divers will be cleaning up refuse from the seafloor off La Herradura and the mouth of the Río Guadalfeo. They will also be on the look out for cetacean sightings (dolphin, Porpoise etc).

Planned activities start this morning with lectures about the marine environment and the regeneration of coral beds together with the Coral Soul NGO.

Then on the 29th there will be dives to carry out refuse removal where coral beds are situated off Punta de La Mona, again, in collaboration with Coral Soul. On the 30th they will participate in a planned protest on La Herradura beach about the problems caused by jet skis.

Motril Marina has ceded a berth during the yachts activities in these waters, where it can be visited.

Lastly, Ecologistas en Acción has in the 25 years since its foundation continually denounced the dumping of sewage into the sea, generated by urbanizaciones. Consequently, at the moment they are drawing up a report on all of these sewage outlets to establish the culprits.
