The accident occurred around 18.30h in the evening of the 23rd (San Juan) causing tailbacks of nearly ten kilometres in the traffic heading to the coast.

The emergency call centre, 112, received several calls from other drivers to say that there had been a collision between three cars near kilometre point 154 on the southbound lanes. They immediately despatched the traffic police, ambulances and road-maintenance crews.

Paramedics said that two women, aged 64 and 45, and two males, aged 68 and 16 had been injured in the collision, all of whom were taken to Hospital Clínico San Cecilio (PTS) in the city of Granada.
