Big Military Naval Out

As you can imagine, there were long queues for this event in Motril, with Motrileños and tourists alike turning out in their thousands.

MOT Kings's Naval Visit 23 01The naval presence at Motril Port is one of the biggest gatherings of Spanish naval vessels in any Spanish port in quite a while – obviously, that does not include naval bases, such as Rota or Cartegena.

Yesterday was just the first day of this multi-day event, which will continue on the 2nd with the arrival of His Majesty, Rey Felipe VI, and then the big parade through the streets of Granada on the 3rd… obviously, no ships involved there, but plenty of marching service personnel, tanks & other vehicles, as well as a fly past.

MOT Kings's Naval Visit 23 02Of course, on the 2nd, with the King in Motril, there will also be a military parade as well.

Back to the port, yesterday and 13 naval vessels were present with ship visits from ten in the morning to eight in the evening.

Big ships. Has Spain ever used the bigger ones in earnest or elsewhere ?
Smaller more mobile destroyers and MTBs I can understand.
Still it keeps the shipbuilders in work and the arms/munitions chaps in the money.
I guess they could take Granada. After all, if the Americans can manage it. Should be easy for the Spanish ?
