Vox Salobreña, as part of the election campaign, set about removing rubbish from the Río Guadalfeo on Thursday the 25th of last month.
They did this to express their rejection of acoustic and environmental pollution caused by the majority of political parties during the election campaign.
Amongst the rubbish collected was a road-sign, mattresses, armchairs, cans, building rubble, glass and a lot of plastic, they claim.
The acoustic contamination the party refers to is the use of megaphones blaring from cars circulating around the town, including outlying urbanizaciones such as Urbanizacion Monte de Los Almendros. The environmental pollution refers to the amount of posters and banners festooned through the streets.
Both these points are common to just about every town and village in Spain, unfortunately.
Vox candidate for Mayor, Manuel Martín Montero, said that if people vote for them, they will continue to use these anachronistic methods of pushing their election campaigns.
Editorial comment: demagogues are artful in stating what many would agree with, which does not make what they say untrue. However, previous campaigns to clear up litter and refuse from the river and its environs were done by citizen volunteers (many of whom were foreigners) without a political agenda.
Oh, and have a look at the third person from the right – check out the V for Victory sign.
