Recycled Irrigation Water

A bigwig from the Junta in charge of Agriculture, Carmen Crespo, visited the La Herradura EDAR (sewage-treatment plant).

The Mayor, Juan José Ruiz, accompanied her, as well as other regional and provincial representatives and all had a good waffle about how marvellous everything was and about what a good job they were doing in their respective capacities.

Amongst the tasks mentioned (which was the purpose of the visit to the installations) was that by September work to provide recycled water for irrigation would be concluded, providing four cubic hectometres of water to take the pressure off the water table.

Carmen Crespo said, “Andalucía will have the chance to count upon 70 cubic hectometres of recycled water, thanks to the structures that the Junta is building,” making Andalucía the leader in Spain in this field, she claimed, adding, “we are getting new water resources through the cyclical economy, at the same time, improving the environment.”

The modifications that are being made to the EDAR in La Herradura will provide enough water to irrigate 600 hectares of cultivated land through a 3-kilometres distribution system to the irrigation ponds belonging to the Comunidades de Regantes de Río Verde de Jete-Almuñécar and Pozo de San Andrés.
