Fire! What fire?

When you see Infoca vehicles shooting along and helicopters overhead... but no smoke, you'd probably wonder what was going on...

AND Infoca PersonnelWhat was going on in the municipality of Insta over in the province of Málaga was a fire drill, which was carried out next to the La Concepción Reservoir.

The Infoca and other emergency units, some 200 personnel, tackled an imaginary fire to test out their coordination and speed of deployment, etc, although you wouldn’t think that they needed much practice with the number of times that they are being called out to tackle fires lately.

The drill, which was to tackle a fire on the Loma de Enmedio, started at 10.00h yesterday, lasting about three hours but not before warning locals not to panic if they saw fire engines go whizzing by.

Tell me, this order about no fires at all, anywhere; garden, BBQs with coals, farming brushwood etc…wasn’t supposed to have been stopped completely until September/October?

Yet, when I wake and look out over the valley from Salobrena to Motril… Plumes of smoke leading to a layer of smoke from the coast inland! Must be older age or awful eyesight and sense of smell.

Perhaps the Policia Rural or Local or Guardia Civil could possibly act? Maybe I’m being harsh. Fires caused by accident or glass or cigarette butts!

Summer is wonderful. Shame about the fires.
