Many people saw the column of smoke above the vega of Salobreña this morning, but there's no reporting on it, so we phoned the Motril fire station for info.
According to the person who attended the phone, the fire broke out a little before 10.00h this morning and by 12.30h the fire was out and the fire personnel returned to the station by 13.00h.
They deployed four fire personnel and two vehicles, one of which was a heavy vehicles (a fire engine) and the other, a UPI (Unidad de Primera Intervención).
Asked what material damage had been caused and if any dwellings were affected, he responded that there was a caravan, which the flames were getting to when they arrived but they managed to save it from the fire.
As for the type of vegetation, it was wild cane and three or four palm trees.
