Have you got a hankering to stroke a tractor? Do you miss your wellies? Then why not pop up to Montefrío tomorrow for their farming fair?
Have you got a hankering to stroke a tractor? Do you miss your wellies? Then why not pop up to Montefrío tomorrow for their farming fair?
Yes, the VI Feria Agrícola de Maquinaria y Alimentación Agromontefrío is just another reason to visit this lovely town on the western side of the province, as if the only round church in Spain were not reason enough.
Whilst tractors have the appearance ratio of unicorns down on the Costa Tropical, there will be plenty of them up there this weekend, along with just about every other kind of farming machinery and wellies.
It’s a bit late to go there today, but tomorrow you can join the other visitors, expected to be around 4,000 over the weekend. Practice your oo-argh and knowing nods on Spanish farmers at the mention of vacas.
There’s a complete, activities programme and a couple of bars offering country faire at reasonable prices. For example there’s a horse-riding show, a flamenco-dancing display but sadly you will have missed the Spanish Omelette Competition, which took place at one o’clock today.
Of course, like in all fairs, there are the handicraft stands along with ones selling serrano ham, cheeses, pastries, natural cosmetic products and ceramics.
So, how do you find it? The best option is from the A92, taking the Loreto 211 Exit, then just cross your fingers that you don’t get eaten by roaming bands of crazed midgets. Seriously, look out for the A-335, passing through Tocón,once you leave the A-92 and it will take you straight there. But hey, you’ve got a mobile phone with Google Earth, so you should have not problem finding it.
Be warned that it is a 3-day camel trek and a packed lunch from the coast!
