Anti-Poop Campaign

The Environmental Department of Salobreña Town Hall has launched a campaign entitled, "Is Salobreña Important to You?"

SAL Anti-Poop CampaignThe main drive of the campaign is to persuade dog owners to pick up their mutt’s excrement.

Actually, they word it differently and say it is to “heighten awareness amongst dog owners to the importance of not letting their pet foul the town’s streets.”

How does the Environmental Department intend to achieve this? By sticking up eight, large posters on bus-stop shelters. They will also be placed at the entrance to the parks.

To round it off there will also be adverts on the local radio and on social media.

Editorial comment: fine ’em until their eyes bleed — that’ll make them pick up their canine landmines!

Didn’t the Mayor cock a leg at the opening of the dog poo park, where the dogs can poo, but humans don’t bother to pick up?

Get cats; they normally hide theirs or crap in someone else’s garden!

Put up a poster and do some radio /social media stuff. That will really impress the lazy gits. Fine them. Fine them all. But do remember to pay the people that police this. A decent wage and not shirk on overtime. !!

Yet another half hearted idea from a council that has not got a clue how to do things. Many towns and villages along the coast have signs stating dog owners will be fined if their dogs leave their waste on the street and the deterrent appears to work. The Mayor keeps harping on about Salobrena being a top tourist destination, who wants to visit a place and then play dog shit hop scotch?

Salobreña seems to suffer more than some towns. Owners seem to even leave their mutts mess even in the new dog parks. Flat owners also put their animals out alone to wander around. We badly need a dog warden, chips and fines. If other towns can do this, why not Salobreña?

They do this in the USA and it works, so many dog owners carry small bags. It’s a good idea. I don’t own a pet but my daughter does. When we take Pippa for a walk we carry the bags. It’s an owners responsibility to keep the streets clean..
