Ízbor Deliberate Fires

Residents of Ízbor, a tiny hamlet with the municipality of El Pinar, are far from happy over three fires in the space of one week, on the 11th, 13th and 14th of March.

The latest incident was just after eleven in the evening of  Tuesday the 14th of March, when a fire broke out in the area known as La Curva del Nogal, which is close to housing. Fire personnel, helped by locals managed to put it out. According to one witness, one local had to use his 4×4 to carry the hose pipes because the fire truck couldn’t get up to where the fire was. The Mayor has since asked the Junta to help cut access to this upper area for the use of Infoca.

The Mayor of Pinar explained that the first fire, on Saturday the 11th, had destroyed a pipe that feeds one of the drinking fountains in the village and that the Guardia Civil were looking into this series of arson in such a short space of time. The fire on Monday, the second one, broke out around 09.45h in in the lower area of the barranco near the entrance to the village, next to Casa Verde.

The fire on the 11th was finally put out around 20.30h by Infoca using a water-bomber helicopter, which had to be withdrawn later in the day because of high winds. In the meantime, three dwellings were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
