The Town Hall has been working near the mouth of the Río Guadalfeo to both create a small wetland area and to eradicate the wild cane growing there.

The creation of this small wetland is thanks to the Cuenca hidrográfica de la Junta de Andalucía whose intention is to eliminate the extensive presence of wild cane or reed (Arundo Donax), which is classified as an invasive species as it chokes other flora in the fluvial ecosystem.

Creating a wetland, little more than a long channel fed by one of the irrigation channels that ends near the rivermouth, improves the diversity and general health of the area.

It will not only give room for other flora but will also become home to amphibians and a nesting area for water fowl.
