Drink driving can get you into real trouble if you have an accident, and even more trouble if the accident involves a police patrol car.

This is what happened in the early hours of the last Sunday of last month in the city of Granada. The officers had just parked the car when another car bumped into it. They were not pleased.

They immediately breathalysed the driver who gave a positive reading of 0.94 mg of alcohol in a litre of air. Since the legal limit is 0.25 mg/l, he was three times over the limit and in profound excreta.

The patrol car was hardly damaged at all so the officers were able to carry on with their patrol.
