The Provincial Cultural Department belonging to the Junta de Andalucia has approved a project submitted by Almuñécar Town Hall to install new lighting in the parish church, La Encarnación.
The new lighting will be for illuminating the facade in order to show off this historic building, which was built in the 1600s.
The old system has long been on the blink (working on and off) as it is obsolete, leaving many inoperative fixtures on the facade that no longer work at all and cables exposed to the elements.
The new lighting will be of the low-consumption kind (LED technology) consisting of 136 lamps along the length and height of the front and tower, as well as running beneath the cornices.
The cables will also be placed out of sight rather than draped across the facade; where they are visible, they will be painted the same colour as the wall behind them.
