Roads in the province that have been affected by snowfall are in the higher Alpujarra, Sierra Nevada, Guadix and Baza.
Starting with the A-395 (Sierra Nevada access road) between kilometre points 32 and 38 where the use of snow chains are obligatory or ‘winter tyres.’ HGVs and buses are being turned back.
The DGT (Guardia Civil Traffic Department) says that the A-4025 (Güéjar Sierra) is closed to traffic from its beginning up to kilometre point six in both directions.
Also in Güéjar Sierra, the A-4030 has been closed to heavy-goods vehicles (HGVs) and buses. All other vehicles must use snow chains. There are also problems at the Puerto de la Ragua (mountain pass). No HGVs or buses allowed at the moment.
The A-337 in Laroles had been experiencing traffic-flow problems between KM-15 and KM-25 during the early morning but restrictions on lorries and buses remain in force. Snow-chain usage is obligatory on the 4050 in Albuñuelas and the A-4301 in Huéscar.
It’s worth pointing out that the A-4050 is the Carretera de La Cabra (Otivar) so there is probably snow up there, at least near the Jayena turn off, given its altitude.
The Sierra Nevada ski resort has had 15 cm of snowfall, although this same snowfall prevented the ski station opening for the second day running.
Editorial Update: we spoke with José at Mesón Los Prados around 14.00h and he said that there is hardly any snow up there and what there was is fast disappearing, including at the Jayena crossroads. It is bloody cold, mind, he reassured us.
