The officer caught up with him and a struggle ensued but the suspect managed to break free and run into the cortijo. Immediately afterwards, the two men and a woman began to insult the officers and throw stones and bottles at them, according to the police. They were even threatened with an air rifle, states the police report.

Upon searching the cortijo the police discovered that it was being used for the processing of cannabis plants into a  ready-for-sale drugs.

If everything they got was in the photo, that isn’t a commercial operation…not nearly enough weed for that.

Re: Smoking in public or your own garden:

As I understand things, it’s illegal, but decriminalised. So the police won’t generally bother you in your own garden unless someone complains about it; in which case they have to do something.

You’re not allowed to smoke in public last time I checked…a 300 euro insta-fine if memory serves.

It still actually illegal to the best of my knowledge, though, so much of it depends upon the mood and intentions of the policeman. Police can use that as the thin end of the wedge to try and get something else on you. Conversely, they can totally ignore you smoking in public and/or ask for a toke. Seen both happen.

    Nothing wrong with socialist leanings.
It’s the borrox hypocrisy from both commies and fascists that masquerade as your local politicians that irks me.
Did they not understand Animal Farm. !! ??

Patrick: you can, but running away when a policeman approaches normally kindles interest on their part. The policeman was probably going to ask for a pull on it. Hell, back in 86 we had a gig in Zafayona and as we rolled into the town in a VW bus we saw two Guardia Civil officers sharing a toke with a couple of villagers – it was illegal back then, I think, but the Mayor was a communist and everybody was pretty relaxed about things.
