The Public Prosecutor has recommended a prison sentence of eight years and nine months for a man who reportedly shot a pedestrian from his car.
The incident occurred around midnight in Atarfe on the 17th of December, 2021 when the victim was standing outside the front door to his home. As he was standing there, a car shot past and turned back on itself when it got to the end of the street before pulling up next to the victim.
The man sitting in the front passenger seat wound down the window and asked, “are you laughing at me?” The victim approached the car and was about a metre and a half away when the man produced a revolver and shot him in the arm. The car then sped off.
The man was in danger of bleeding to death and was only saved by rapid medical assistance.
Police investigations were hampered by the fact that the gun was a revolver, which leaves no cartridges behind and because the bullet went clean through his arm and was never found, so no ballistics report was possible. Furthermore, although the aggressor was recognised by the victim, the alleged shooter has no firearms in his name nor licence to possess one.
Regardless of these investigative hitches, he was identified and charged with attempted murder and the illegal possession of a firearm. This second offence brings with it a recommendation for a 15-month, prison sentence. Lastly, the Public Prosecutor also recommends that the accused pays 15,107 euros in compensation to the victim.
The court case will be held on the 17th of November in the Sección Segunda of the Audiencia de Granada.
