Work on the road surface of Plaza Madrid and the roads that connect into it has now reached the stage of imprinting a cobblestone design onto it.
Not only will the asphalt have a design stamped on it, but it has also been dyed the same colour as the real cobblestones that it replaces, assures the Mayor, Juan José Ruiz Joya.
He said that it is hoped that the work will be completed within a few days and thus reopened the affected roads to usual traffic.
Now, never one to miss the chance to get a political boot in, deserved or not, Benavides’ party, the CA, pointed out that just months before the municipal elections in 2015, the governing party (PP) announced “with a great fanfare” (bombo y plato) that the renovation work (with cobblestones) on Plaza de Madrid was complete – work that was carried out hurriedly, in order to have an official inauguration before the proximity of the coming elections prohibited such public acts.
Today, the CA claims, “we are paying the price” for these unnecessary (conversion) works which were “badly planned and carried out.”
The Spokesperson concluded that: “it is just one more example of how inefficient the Herrera-Ruiz Joya Administration is; with little public work being carried out and what is done, is done shoddily.”
Editorial comment: while you might agree with the CA, headed by Sr. Benavides, it is a bit steep to accuse another Mayor (however justifiably) of being responsible for shoddy public works – the old municipal market and aquarium built under Benavides immediately come to mind…
