After two years' absence owing to Covid, this Oktoberfest on the Costa del Sol returns, which should have beer enthusiasts smacking their lips.

Purists might sniff at the idea but unless you’re planning on going to Bavaria, then this fiesta on the 8th and 9th of October (yes, Oktoberfest starts in September but don’t knock it) is for you.

He follows an explanation as to it origins and normal dates:

“The majority of the 16 to 18 days of the Oktoberfest take place not in the eponymous October but in September. The name comes from the history of the Wiesn:

The occasion for the first Oktoberfest in 1810 was the wedding of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig to Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen. On October 12th 1810 the festivities began and they ended on October 17th with a horse race.

Since it was so well-received, the festival was repeated in the following years, then extended and at this point brought forward into September. The weather surely played a role in moving the dates, which in Munich at the end of September often provides a pleasant, mild Indian summer.”  (Oktoberfest.de)

The event will take place on Avenida Toré Toré  in Torre del Mar with the collaboration of bars on that central street, explained the Vice-Mayor, Jesús Pérez Atencia (GIPMTM). There will be plenty of music and typical food of the land of the original Oktoberfest.

Concerning music, there will be live music and dance performances: Coros y Danzas de Torre del Mar, Grupo Top Secret, U2 and Mecano tribute bands, El Canto del Loco, as well as Tomate y Compañía, Ejecutivo, Ñ-Clan, Radio 80 and the dance academy Baile Candilejas Fusión.

The fiestas run from noon (12.00h) to 21.00h each day.

The councillor pointed out that it will bring welcome trade to the town, as well as the bars and restaurants on the avenue, in particular. He also thanked the Asociación de Comerciantes y Empresarios de Torre del Mar.
