Lingering Summer

According to the Agencia Estatal de Meteorología (AEMET) we're experiencing what is known as the Veranillo de San Miguel, i.e., an Indian summer or Altweibersommer.

SAL Light Calima 400 x 250Calima made an entrance Sunday night in Granada and Málaga, giving pale, opaque skies and blanketed-in heat.

Inland Granada has had temperatures of 30ºC and there have been light rain inland, too, but not down here on the coast – a good job, too, otherwise it would have been mud-bearing rain.

In all, temperatures are up between 5ºC and 10ºC on the norm for this time of year with levels passing 30ºC in some parts of Granada, Sevilla, Jaén and Córdoba.

Just a quick comment on the Veranillo de San Miguel, which gets its name from the day of San Miguel on the 29th. It also sometimes reappears around San Martín on the 11th of November.

Anyway, cheer up, soon we can kiss goodbye to heat and calima until next year!
