On Saturday night several cars and motorbikes were set on fire in different parts of Almuñécar.
Near Avenida de Andalucía, two cars were set light to, one of them on the street behind it, Calle Andrés Múller, causing an explosion when its fuel tank went up, which woke up everybody in the neighbourhood.
The second incident was on Calle Cariñena, but officers belonging to the Policía Local were able to deal with it until the fire service arrived.
Next came Velilla where reportedly (yet to be confirmed) several motorbikes had also been also attacked. Consequently with all this going on, the Policía Local, Guardia Civil and the fire service were busy most of the night..
The Mayor’s office has issued a statement to say that the Guardia Civil are investigating the incidents. The Mayor said that he hoped that these were isolated incidents and not the work of a pyromaniac who caused a lot of problems around the Avenida Europa, setting light to vehicles in parking areas under blocks of flats, a couple of years back.

It wasn’t me Guv. It was the Plod. He nicked the families and fitted me up. Honest. !!
Darren: Nobody suspects the Police… Wait! Nobody expects the police… Wait! Nobody expects the Spanish Inquisition… that’s the one.
You suspect the police then?
I think the Mayor is a little bit slow or grasping at straws. Which might result in burnt fingers. Just all caught fire magically. !!
Really. !!??
Perhaps if they paid the local police the overtime owed and paid for the numbers required. There might be less of this. !!??
