Wash & Steal

The incident took place on Thursday the 18th of August at a gasolinera in Armilla. The owner of the Seat Leon was just about to put the car through but an acquaintence approached to ask to borrow a tool. The owner left the car for a moment to go to the other man’s car but when he was returning to his car he saw a couple sitting in the front seats.

Before he could reach his car, the couple had sped off leaving him behind. He later described the couple as being in their 50s; the man with grey hair and blue-tinted sunglasses and wearing a surgical mask, and the woman being of a dark complexion with a plait in her hair.

He was left running behind the disappearing car but another person, who was at the wheel of his own car, had seen what was happening and set off in pursuit before losing them.

The victim reported the stolen car to the Guardia Civil in Armilla, who contacted the Policía Nacional for help in locating the car, which the latter eventually did in the parking area for the Carrefour supermarket.

Only 20 minutes had passed since the car had been stolen but in that time the thieves had managed to make four separate purchases using the bankcards. The owners mobile was in the car as well as his wallet.

“In the time that it took us to cancel the cards they had made four purchases in Lidls, a tobacconist on the Camino de Ronda, a bakery on the same street and another seven euros on a taxi,” explained the victim. His bank told him that they had tried to make other purchases but only managed to spend 60 euros in total before the cards became inoperable.

But the most costly part of this incident was the damage caused to the car because in the get away the car had obviously hit obstacles, including parked cars, no doubt.

So, the result of doing a good deed (lending a tool to a friend), the couple have badly damaged car and are 60 euros down in card purchases made before the cards were cancelled.
