The new path connects La Caletilla cove to the Playa del Salon, to the west of the Balcón de Europa. It has great views very different to those from the said mirador, which together with the Nerja Caves are the town’s main attractions.
The Provincial Council provided 163,000 euros for the work, which began back in December. The task was not easy, requiring earth-moving work and even demolitions. Of course, the pathway received a layer of cement before laying paving stones along its course.
In the areas where there are steps, hand railings have been installed and LED, street lighting installed along the pathway’s length.
The municipal gardeners have also been busy planting shrubs, bushes and flowering plants and laying a watering system.
Two more pathways are on the drawing board, one of which will connect the Paseo Marítimo de La Torrecilla to the Playa de El Salón, and the other the Playa de Burriana to Playa Carabeíllo.
Editorial comment: soon after starting as the Editor of the Gazette in 2003, I visited a pathway between the Carabeíllo and Burriana but it was closed at the time because of rockfalls; it is probably that one that is the pathway mentioned above.
