The body of a 74-year-old woman was found floating just off the beach in La Herradura yesterday morning.

Several bathers had seen the victim floating inert for some time and some had even brought her out of the water but there was nothing that they could do for her.

According to the emergency, call centre, 112, they received the first call around 12.15h to say that there was a dead body on La Herradura beach.

The Lifeguards on duty had just finished setting up when a small girl ran up, asking for help because, “a woman is drowning.” The lifeguards soon reached the part of the beach where bathers had placed her.

They were joined by an ambulance paramedic who confirmed that she was dead, so they took the body to a hospital so that an autopsy could confirm that drowning was the cause of death,
