Motril Port will be holding its Open Day, after a long pause during Covid-19, on Saturday the 16th as part of the Virgen del Carmen, bank-holiday festivity.
The IX Jornadas de Puertas Abiertas del Puerto de Motril counts on the collaboration of the savings bank, Caja Rural and the Real Club Náutico.
The Chairman of the Port Authorities, José García Fuentes, said, “Visitors can get to know the port through a cicloturista (bicycle tour) or sailing around it in the Servicios de Amarras boat and by air through the camera of a drone.”
There are kiddies activities and three expositions; one is a painting exhibition entitled Salvemos el Mediterráneo by the artist Francisco Izquierdo. There’s another one of beach care/maintenance with the Provincial Council programme in collaboration with the Mancomunidad de La Costa and lastly a watercolours exhibition in the Aula del Mar offices within the port.
If you fancy something a little more ‘active’ then there are several drills that will be put on by the police forces, as well as visits to ships in dock. This year it will be the Off-Shore-Patrol-Vessel (P22) Tagomago.
Also on show for visitors is the Guardia Civil, fast-launch, Río Genil used for interception and rescue missions. Lastly the vessels belonging to the Salvamento Marítimo (Maritime Rescue): the rescue launch, Salvamar Gienah and the rescue tug, SAR Masterlero.
Although there is parking for 200 vehicles, it is recommended that you enter the port area on foot or on bicycle.
So, there is no excuse for getting bored on Saturday the 16th – pop along!
