Beach Deaths

As soon as summer arrives, then news on drownings along the Andalusian coastline and in swimming pools, both private and public, begin to come in.

AND Playa MatalascañasOn the 5th a man died on Playa de Matalascañas in Almonte (Huelva). The emergency call centre received the first call a little before noon regarding this person.

A man, who was in evident trouble and appeared to be drowning, was pulled out of the water. An ambulance was immediately despatched to the beach, together with a Guardia Civil patrol.

Lifeguards on duty had performed PCR until the arrival of the paramedics but unfortunately the man was pronounced dead before he could reach hospital.

Then, the next day, a man died on Playa de la Caleta near the city of Málaga around 17.45h, which was when a lifeguard alerted 112. The lifeguard explained that the man had been in the water more or less in front of the lifeguard tower and appeared to be drowning.

The lifeguard got the man to the beach but he had already suffered a heart attack so CPR was immediately applied. This was continued by the paramedics who had arrived in an ambulance. Again, however, it was to late and the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no information as to the age of the two victims nor can it be said that they had drowned (technically speaking) because only an autopsy can confirm this. The victim could have died of a heart attack, rather than from drowning.
