The price of gasoline and diesel continues to climb, so much so, that thieves are targeting vehicle fuel tanks to drain them of their precious liquid.

There have been cases in Tenerife where drivers have found that somebody had drilled a small hole in the tank, under the car and caught the gasoline in a container.

Sounds just a tad risky and all that, but it has been happening.

The police there explained that the thieves sometime use a drill and other times puncture the tank with a screwdriver.

Regardless of how they do it, the result is that people are now checking under their cars for telltale puddles of gasoline, as well as checking the gas gauge once they’ve turned on the ignition.

There’s a Youtube channel called SocialDrive which has posted a video of an unfortunate driver examining his car after falling victim to the fuel vampires!

So, gone are the days when people would syphon your petrol out via the filling cap, (virtually impossible in modern cars) which was much more benevolent, because you just had to buy more gasoline – with a punctured tank, it’s no good putting more fuel into your car until you have repaired the tank.
