San Juan is a time when the police carry out special measures to intercept drugs reaching the beach, so it is no surprise that somebody was caught with a rucksack full.

The Almuñécar Policía Local stopped a young man on a motorbike wearing a backpack in the afternoon of the 23rd and upon inspecting it found 12.8 kg of hashish.

Although that is a large amount of hashish, the police are more worried about designer drugs; i.e., the pills people pop without knowing what is in them, which in many cases, contains lethal substances.

In fact, along the Costa Tropical the Guardia Civil dished out 50 fines for people in possession of small amounts of drugs or for consuming them in public.

Furthermore, they made three arrests, two of whom, once identified, had arrest warrants out on them for failing to report in to commence a prison sentence. The third individual was arrest for attempted assault on a police officer when he was asked to indentify himself..
