The Almuñécar Employment Department has offered free English classes (basic level) to the unemployed in order for them to find work in the commercial sector.

The idea is to “favour the reinsertion and re-qualification of residents within the municipality,” explained the Head of the said department, Beatriz González Orce.

The course, which has limited spaces, is completely free and will last a total of 20 hours. The classes will be given in the Sala de Música in the Casa de la Cultura, between 10.00h and 12.00h, from Monday to Friday.

Councillor González explained that as Almuñécar is now officially recognised as a Municipio Turistico where commercial activity holds a place of importance, she considers languages essential for the future employment of those without jobs.

Editorial comment: so, basically, the Town Hall is going to use the taxes paid by local language academies to go into direct competition with them. Wonderful.
