Axarquía has a nascent film industry in the form of locations in production companies. For this reason public administrations are helping out.

The Head of Tourism for the Mancomunidad de Axarquía , Juan Peñas, who also runs the Axarquía Film Office had a meeting with the Director of the Málaga Film Commission, Salomón Castiel, and its Coordinator, Thalia Berral.

The two entities intend to work closely to create “common-action strategies” to promote and develop film shoots, as well as providing technical and administrative advice for those belonging to the film sector, explained the Axarquía Film Office in its communiqué.

One of their joint goals is to bring into being the Escuela de Cine de la Axarquía, which was presented at the Fitur tourism fair in Madrid.

The Axarquía is included within a guide produced by the provincial authorities, which includes 190 film locations and over 300 photographs around the different comarcas for films, series and documentaries.
