No, it's not a typo! The 20-cents discount on a litre of fuel will come into effect on the 1st of April - yes, yes; that's April Fools' Day - we've noticed.
In other words, if you can hang on until Friday morning, try not to fill your tank until then because you can save yourself a whole 10 euros on filling a 50L tank.
In fact, all of the anti-crisis measures that the Central Government has drawn up will come into effect on that same day.
It will still have to clear the hurdle of Parliamentary backing within 30 days, but the main opposition party, the PP, has said that they will back it. Incredible but true.
When you do fill up at the pumps, the purchase ticket will show this discount; i.e., the gasonlinera is obligated to demonstrate the reduction, which means that they can’t say, “Yes, we’ve taken off the 20-cents/L” when they really haven’t.
To stop prices going up in the meantime (effectively wiping out the discount) the relevant Ministry has put a mechanism in place to prevent it.
