A judge in the Granada law courts had ordered that the City Hall get back the 200,000 euros that they had awarded Town-Hall functionaries as productivity bonuses.
This generous hand-out came via municipal coffers and was distributed in December 2020 but the Vox councillor on the City Council was not impressed and took them to court, claiming that it was not legal.
Councillor, Onofre Miralles, said he had his doubts from the start, when the governing party took it to a City Council Plenary Meeting for its approval. He considered that the funds, which came from the Central Government, should have gone to businesses and workers affected by the pandemia.
The Town Council, which was governed at the time by a PP/Ciudadanos coalition, defended their actions considering the right of public workers to receive this extra payment.
The Plenary Meeting was a heated one sharply divided between the governing coalition and the opposition parties. However, it was passed in the end thanks to the votes in favour of the opposition party, PSOE. Vox and Unidas Podemos remained firm and voted against.
The reasoning given by Vox before the judge on this matter was that the funds were given to all city-hall functionaries, in blanket fashion, giving each functionary 100 euros and 41 cents, which made a mockery of individuals who had actually excelled in productivity.
