Almuñécar Town Hall and the provincial fire service (Consorcio Provincial de Bomberos) at a meeting last month agreed on improving the town’s fire station.
The result is that provincial consortium will provide Almuñécar with a budget of 244,500 euros as the 2022 budget for the municipal fire service. This represents a 5.3% increase on last year’s. This increase was requested by the Town Hall at the above-mentioned meeting.
The Almuñécar fire service is responsible for giving coverage to Almuñécar, La Herradura, Jete, Lentegí, Molvízar, Otívar and Ítrabo, totalling around 32,000 altogether.
Furthermore, during the first half of this year the fire station is expected to receive additional and/or new protective clothing, breathing apparatus and mobile-lighting equipment to the tune of 148,900 euros
During the course of 2021, the fire servie had 331 call outs (almost an average of one a day) fundamentally for minor tasks such as removing fallen trees, as well as their principle task of putting out fires; vehicles, hopper bins, on wasteland, farmland and house fires.
All the majority of call outs were for Almuñécar (270) others were for La Herrdaura (34) Molvízar (13), Otivar (5)
Other things that were discussed were the creation of a training area within the municipality for the rescue-dog unit belonging to the fire service. The area would also be used for fire personnel for training exercises.
