The hill fire within the Valle de Lecrín, which broke out yesterday afternoon, was declared 'estabilizado' just over an hour ago; i.e., just before nine this morning.
It’s worth explaining the terminology that Infoca use to describe the state of a fire: Activo, Estabilizado, Controlado and Extinguido.
Activo: the fire is spreading out of control and could have one or several fronts
Estabilizado: still not under control but the situation is progressing favourably meaning there are no fronts that are advancing aggresively.
Controlado: the fire is contained, no fronts are advancing as the whole perimeter is either burnt land or fire breaks, denying the fire a fuel source to advance. Within the fire zone there are still active hotspots.
Extinguido: a fire is considered extinguished when Infoca, fire experts consider that it is out and there is no possibility that it will revive; i.e., just because the flames have gone, it is not technically ‘out’
