The Mayor of Salobreña María Eugenia Rufino, announced that she recently became infected, together with six of her relatives but all are recovering.
She is expected to receive a clean bill of health and be back at work today.
She pointed out that her case emphasises the need for residents to keep their guard up as well as it demonstrates that the vaccine does mitigate the affects of contagion
Here are her words:
“I have been absent some time because I have been too busy to post on social media… …about ten days ago I caught Covid – it’s frightening. Of the ten cases in Salobreña, seven of them correspond to relatives of mine. We were worried about my parents-in-law but they came through it more or less OK. I was the one that went down with it the hardest.
I would like to ask you all to be very careful. The figures are out there despite the vaccines (the blessed vaccines because without them we would end up in the ICUs) the virus is still causing problems and numbers are climbing again. Please take care of yourselves and of your family and friends.”
