The Costa Tropical has begun its yearly food-donation collection for its Food Banks, which will run until (including) the 25th of this month.
Almost every supermarket and food shop along the coast is participating in this Gran Recogida de Alimentos 2021 del Banco de Alimentos.
As was the case last year, during the onslaught of Covid-19, the donation system is different from the tradional one; i.e., picking up extra items, paying for them and then handing them over to volunteers.
The present system is that you tell the person at the checkout till how much you want to donate and that is added to your bill – this “extra” is given to the Food Banks.
This year it is even possible to make donations via the webpages of the Food Banks. These sites give the option of making a one-off donation of between 25 to 100 euros, or alternatively, you can become a member and make regular donations of amounts of your choice, monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly. For this second option there are several systems for making the transfer such as, bank transfer or Bizum.
All donations, whether they are made via supermarkets or Internet go to purchasing basic, foodstuffs for families in need, of whom there are around 6,000 on the Costa Tropical.
The Manager of the Motril Banco de Alimentos, Sergio Gutiérrez, explained that, although no volunteers were present in the shops last year, they will be present this time in order to inform shoppers about this year’s campaign. Over 100 volunteers will be helping out in food establishments in Motril, Salobreña and Almuñécar.
