Pruning Aplenty

This week the workers have been out in La Herradura blitzing the trees in the Barrio del Espinar area.

LHR Ficus Pruning Barrio del EspinarThe First Councillor for La Herradura, Juan José Ruiz Joya, explained that the Town Hall had hired the local company, Viveros La Mezquita, for the task.

Trees along the banks of the rambla have been cut back and in the case of the ficus in the photo, received a short back and sides. All of the cuttings have been triturated using a wood chipper/branch mulcher.

“They’re large ficus trees that require specialised machinery owing to the height of them,” explained Councillor Ruiz, adding, “this will let more sunlight through during the winter.”

Meanwhile municipal gardeners have been active up around the iron-cactus junction; i.e., the one on the road from the N-340 near the tunnel giving access to the Punta and the Marina. The junction also gives access to the upper part of La Herradura through Camino Real.

They have cut back the mimosas that had sprung up around the monument, as well as the oleander along the road.
