The Guardia Civil have arrested a 22-year-old man, accused of trying to knock over a policeman manning a road checkpoint. The police also arrested the passenger for possession of drugs.
This incident occurred during the Halloween fiestas in Salobreña; i.e., during the night of the 31st.
The police, as mentioned in a previous article, had been carrying out spot checks on cars entering the town, looking for people driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol.
When the officer signalled the driver to pull over, instead of doing so, he accelerated away, scarcely missing one of the police officers manning the control point.
The Guardia Civil immediately gave chase in their patrol car, pursuing the accused through the trading estate. At a given moment the car skidded to a halt and both occupants made a break for it on foot but they didn’t get far as other police units had joined the pursuit.
The driver was tested for drugs consumption and gave a positive reading for narcotics. Both men were placed in police custody at the Salobreña Guardia Civil post pending being brought before a magistrate.
