Almuñécar Present in London

The Almuñécar Board of Tourism is not only present at the World Travel Market in London, but has managed to get its name on London buses to promote the town.

ALM London Bus with Town's NameThirty-six London buses, both single and double-deckers bear the name of Almuñécar in large letters and will continue to do so for two weeks and not just whilst the WTM lasts.

If Londoners didn’t know the name of Almuñécar, they will get their first glance at it along the following bus routes: “Aldgate, Aldwych, Bank, Beckton, Bow, Bromley, Buckhurst Hill, Canary Wharf, Canning Town, Canning Town Station, Clapton, Crossharbour, Cubitt Town, Custom House, East Ham, Gallions Reach Shopping Park, Globe Town, Hackney, Hackney Wick, Heron Quay, Homerton, Homerton Hospital, Island Gardens, Keir Hardie Estate, Limehouse, London City Airport, Loughton Station, Manor Park, Mansion House, Mile End, Millwall, Newham General Hospital, North Woolwich, Old Ford, Poplar, Roding Valley, Silvertown, South Hackney, South Woodford, Stoke Newington, Stratford, Trafalgar Square, Westferry, West Ham, Woodford”.

The Councillor for Tourism, Daniel Barbero said, “by making the publicity campaign coincide with the WTM, it achieves a double impact; amongst the general public as well as amongst professionals from the tourist industry present at the WTM.”

Editorial comment: It must have been at the end of the 80s that I was hired as an interpreter to accompany the lorry carrying the Almuñécar stand for the WTM being held at London Olympia. During the fair the Almuñécar stand traded (unofficially) jamón serrano with the Italian stand for their coffee – everybody there was after their coffee; the Spanish, Germans, French…

Frances: After you’ve been anywhere for a while, you get to realise that a town isn’t wasn’t what it used to be, and more importantly, you aren’t who you used to be, because you’re a lot older; in other words, you can’t expect a town not to change, if you have changed yourself 😉
