The problem was money and conviction on the part of the Junta under both the socialists and the conservatives. But that’s in the past, now, as a quote has been included in the 2022 Andalusian budget.
The new building, which is situated next to Parque La Fuente II, is double the size of the old one. It’s well placed as it is what will be the main crossroads connecting the beach area to the main town area, and the Gambullón road that links La Caleta/Guardia to the new park running parallel with the beach.
The plot covers 4,500 sq/m is actually situated on the corner of the TH1; i.e., the are were the hotels will go up… one day. This plot will contain 2,500 sq/m built metres. The building itself will cost around 4m euros, and that is without including what needs to go inside in the way of equipment and furniture.
The municipal architect, Francisco Morejón, explained that the original building could have been enlarged using an adjacent plot of land in private hands, but it would have been more expensive than building a completely new building on publicly held land.
The new Centro de Salud has room to include offices, for example, that are presently housed in separate buildings to the old Centro de Salud. The actually construction work will take 18 months so we’re looking at the end of 2022/beginning of 2023.
