Adulterated Whiskey

SPN Adulterated Whiskey 02Is nothing sacred? Evidently not. Anyway, the operation culminated in 26 arrests in Córdoba, Sevilla, Cádiz, Jaén, Alicante, Murcia and La Rioja charging them with, an offence against Industrial property, fraud, an offence against consumers rights, the forgery of tax labels and belonging to a criminal organisation.

The police should have added ‘excruciating blasphemy,’ perhaps.

Besides the arrests the Guardia Civil also confiscated 5,610 bottles of whiskey, all with false labelling for a well known Scottish distillery. Hopefully, some bottles will still be in existence when the court case comes around, in order to ensure a black-cap conviction

The gang used a front company behind which they operated, which the Guardia Civil in Córdoba had caught whiff of the company operating in Jaén because whiskey supposely belonging to the Scottish distillery was being sold well below normal market price.

Two last points, firstly there were two foreigners amongst those arrested (couldn’t be Scots…) and, secondly, the police also confiscated 9,000 litres of sunflower oil, obtained through bartering the wonky whiskey.
