As funding for the new Salobreña medical centre was not included in the Junta's yearly budget, the Mayor is looking for EU funding.
The Mayor intends to request funding from the Plan de Resiliencia de la Unión Europea, more commonly known as the Next Generation.
Owing to the fact that municipalities cannot request funds directly, but rather that it must come from regional authorities, Salobreña will approach the Delegación de Salud en Granada and the Distrito Sanitario Granada Sur; i.e., the provincial health authorities.
The project has been submitted to the Servicio Andaluz de Salud and as it is well advanced, bureacratically speaking, it is almost ready to be included in these EU funds.
The Mayor, María Eugenia Rufino, who says that she feels optimistic over this course taken, describes the project of “absolute urgency and necessity.” If all goes well, she considers, the ball could start rolling during this year.
The Town Hall should know by the end of this month whether the medical-centre project has been accepted for funding. Furthermore, once approved the funds will arrive with relative alacrity… at least into the Junta’s possession…
