Robbing A Blindman

GRA Robbing a BlindmanThe case of Óscar Linde in Albolote, who is blind, restores a sense of justice in the judicial system.

Some people will go out of their way to help somebody who is blind if it seems they heading for a dangerous obstacle in the street and there are others who take advantage of them in order to make money. We don’t know who it was, but this is what happened.

In 2016 somebody took out a loan for 4,000 euros in his name by forging his signature. He has his suspicions about who it was but it could not be proven. But even if guilt could not be assigned, the judge recognised innocence and acquitted him of this debt burden.

It was four years ago that Oscar received an SMS on his phone from a known express-loan company that he had an outstanding debt with them. Somebody had obtained a photocopy of his ID card and forged his signature to take out a loan in his name for 4,000 euros to be repaid in 36 instalments of 114 euros.

He refused to pay something that he had nothing to do with and ended up in court after being sued by Unión Financiera Asturiana.

A calligraphy expert was brought in who determined that the signature on the document was forged and did not belong to Oscar, who sells ONCE lottery tickets and is well known in his home town.

The judge sentenced that there was no proof at all that Oscar had consented to this financial arrangement and acquitted him. The loan company can appeal but it doesn’t look like it will.
