Brits in Caratauna Drugs Bust

GRA Alpujarra Drugs BustThere was a big, drugs bust reported in the Alpujarra at the beginning of the week with six arrests, two of whom were British.

Police operation Ánimas Cañaíllas, which started with a raid on a cortijo in Carataunas, caught two Austrians, whom they consider to be the ring leaders of a European-wide drugs (marihuana) ring that had its processing and packing arrangement in the said cortijo.

The first police action was on the 4th of October when over 4,000 plants were discovered, together with machines for vacuum packing the ‘product.’

All this came to pass after the Guardia Civil in Órgiva learned that somebody was doing up an old storehouse (apero) with the intention of growing and processing marihuana. They located the buildings and after staking it out for several days discovered that only one person visited it, a Spaniard, who was later arrested.

This arrest set the police operation in motion culminating in the above-mentioned arrests.
