Anybody who drives past Padul on the autovía will have seen the scrapyard but yesterday they would have also seen the pail of smoke erupting from it.
Fire personnel from Granada managed to bring it under control and eventually put it out, but not before the blaze had burnt out a large number of vehicles in one area of the yard, which have even lost their scrap value, perhaps.
As well as units for the South-Granada fire station, there were also vehicles and personnel from the North Granada fire station, backing them up.
The emergency service received a call out a little before three o’clock in the afternoon and such was the black smoke billowing out of the scrapyard that traffic police had to close the N-323, which runs parallel to the autovía in this area, because of the poor visibility. However, by 17.30h it was reopened to normal traffic flow.
Nobody was hurt in the fire.
